It signals warmth, refuge, connection, and comfort… especially in mountain homes!

But when it comes to fireplaces and hearth design, many homeowners are unknowingly playing with fire: choosing systems, materials, or details based on appearance alone, without understanding performance, safety, code considerations, or long-term implications.

This Après Design conversation brings together fireplace and surface experts to unpack what homeowners often don’t realize they don’t know, from fuel type decisions and efficiency considerations to material performance around heat, fabrication realities, and installation details that can make or break a project.

Together, we’ll explore how to design fireplaces that are not only beautiful, but appropriate for mountain living, renovation conditions, rental use, and modern expectations of comfort and reliability.
