The Accidental Canadian

For more than fifty years, writer and explorer James Raffan has travelled, researched, and learned across the Arctic. To celebrate this remarkable milestone, he’s bringing a brand‑new one‑man musical storytelling show to the NATC at Silver Star: The Accidental Canadian.

Inspired by the coin toss that made his family “accidental Canadians,” James shares a lifetime of Arctic adventures—canoeing remote rivers, travelling by dogsled and icebreaker, flying into tiny northern communities, and meeting people whose stories rarely reach southern audiences. In this special live performance, James blends his trademark humour, insight, and imagery with original songs written specifically for the show, performed throughout the evening.

Audiences can expect an engaging, all‑ages experience filled with unforgettable characters, breathtaking northern moments, and reflections from half a century spent exploring the Great White North. James will make you laugh, think, and maybe even tear up as he offers a fresh appreciation of Canada through the places and people that shaped his life.
