  • Why You Need to Put Silver Star On Your Spring Skiing Radar

While we’ve been tapping the powder keg at Silver Star, spring break is just around the corner and we are here for it. We love a good winter wonderland moment—and, there are plenty—but it’s always exciting when the season of goggle tans and hot laps rolls into town. From cruisy runs and lively mountain culture events to sun-soaked patio vibes and abundant activities off the slopes, visiting our mid-mountain paradise in the spring brings a vibrant energy.

If you’re planning a spring skiing getaway, here’s why Silver Star should be at the top of your list.

The Dowhill Skiing and Riding is GREAT

SilverStar Mountain Resort is a spring skiing paradise with all-natural snow that often blankets the slopes from November through April. By the time March arrives, the slopes are set for glistening runs on fresh-groomed corduroy (and a sneaky powder day or two).

Glide down mellow runs on the frontside of the mountain with midday stops in the village to fill up on lunch, hit the “hairy backside” for steeper runs, or test your metal in the spring terrain park build-out.

Silver Star Village is walkable with plenty of ski-in/ski-out accommodation, so the mountain is never far away—and in most cases, it’s right outside your door. Be transported from a cozy fireplace and hot tub to fresh turns on the slopes in the time it takes to put on your toque.

Celebrate Spring With Music and Mountain Culture

Here at Silver Star, we live for skiing and snowboarding. We love to share that passion and give thanks to Ullr, the Norse god of snow, for a snow-filled season. Spring is our time to celebrate mountain culture and community with fun events that bring the resort to life.

Taking place over several days in March and April, the SEISMIC Festival is the highlight of the season; combining sport, art, entrepreneurial spirit, and live music for a one-of-a-kind experience. Think: giveaways, themed ski days, and live entertainment—all set against the stunning backdrop of the mountain.

For Nordic skiing enthusiasts, the Sovereign2SilverStar Ski Marathon (April 5-6, 2025) is not to be missed. This two-day annual cross-country skiing race event that coins itself a “point to party,” attracts over 650 participants and is a testament to Silver Star’s reputation as a premier destination for Nordic skiing.

In the village, you’ll find live music, markets, and performances that create a festive atmosphere. Whether you’re here for the events or just soaking in the energy, the mountain buzz is contagious. Check out our don’t-miss activities and events Silver Star.

Cross-Country Skiing Trails are Primed

Amateur Nordic skiers and Olympians alike love to cross country ski at Silver Star. Spring is a great time to experience the thrill of Canada’s largest continuous groomed trail network. With ample snow and chef’s kiss conditions, you can ski in the tracks of World Cup champions. Click into your skis and explore two Nordic venues: Sovereign Lake and SilverStar Mountain Resort (hence the name of the aforementioned ski marathon event).

Keep the Fun Going Off the Slopes

After a day of skiing and snowboarding, the fun doesn’t stop when you step out of your ski boots. Tube Town and Brewer’s Pond outdoor ice skating rink are perfect for an afternoon and evening adrenaline rush. Check out the waffles, hot chocolate, and fire pit to make your experience even cozier. Those seeking a quieter pace can explore 16 kilometres (10 miles) of Silver Star singletrack trails on a fat bike or snowshoes

Multi-Sport Days in the Trails Capital of BC

Spring at Silver Star opens the door to a world of multi-sport adventures in the North Okanagan as snow remains on the mountains, and the valleys turn green and lush.

Start your morning skiing or snowboarding at SilverStar Mountain Resort, then head 20 minutes down the road to explore. Known as the Trails Capital of BC, Greater Vernon is a haven for hiking and biking enthusiasts, and its lakeside views make for the perfect post-skiing hangout. Adventure beckons, whether you’re wheeling down the iconic Okanagan Rail Trail that skirts Kalamalka Lake or trying more technical cross-country bike trails, managed by the North Okanagan Cycling Society (NOCS).

Goggle Tans and Patio Vibes

No spring ski trip is complete without a little après on the patio. Silver Star is home to several restaurants and bars that offer outdoor dining in the heart of the village, where you can soak up the sun and trade stories from the day. Sip a craft beer at the Bulldog Grand Cafe, indulge in elevated tasting plates, artisan cocktails, and local wine at the Black Pine Social, or nibble on hearty bites at the Red Antler. The characterful Long John’s Pub offers a cozy indoor seating that offers an extensive drink menu and homestyle cooking.

Day Trips from Silver Star to the North Okanagan

Silver Star’s central location makes it easy to explore the North Okanagan. Venture into Downtown Vernon to discover community history, charming shops, indie cafes, and colourful murals. For a taste of the valley, visit nearby vineyards, breweries, and cideries for a springtime sampling of the Okanagan’s best flavors. A trip to regional orchards, bursting with fresh blooms, adds a touch of seasonal magic to your visit.

For those willing to venture a little farther, Lumby is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Check out Mabel Lake for serene views and outdoor activities, and don’t forget to stop by Jitter Beans Coffee House for a cozy pick-me-up along the way.

From incredible spring skiing and vibrant mountain events to sunny patio sessions and North Okanagan adventures, Silver Star has it all. This spring break, make the most of the season and discover why this mountain destination deserves a spot on your bucket list.
